~ About the STHC

The Save the Hatchling Campaign is a free volunteer effort to save baby dragons. It was founded because of the need to address not only dragon salvation, but the rescue of baby dragons too. The Campaign does not only focus on hatchlings, all baby or juvenile dragons are included here, and additional banners are available that focus upon dragonets as well.

10% of Hatchlings, and 55% of Dragonets die as babies. It has also been noted that very young dragons that have laid clutches of eggs are incapable of raising them, and so abandon the hatchlings and they die (from Dragon Life Cycle). Through the work of the STHC, and Dragonmaid's Sanctuary, these statistics will hopefully come down to naught.

~ How you can help

By joining the STHC, taking the pledge, and complying with that pledge, you can help reduce the baby dragon mortality rate. But, you can do other things, too, without joining the Campaign.

By adopting homeless young dragons; taking in and/or finding homes for abandoned babies; providing shelter or places of rest for weary or very young dragon parents; not promoting or endorsing dragon culling of any kind; and trying to dispel the myth that baby dragon hearts provide immortality etc; you can help reduce the death toll.

~ Sega - The STHC Mascot

Sega was rescued, with 9 other brothers and sisters (of which she was the smallest), from a very small and secluded cavern about 900km (550m) from the Sanctuary. She was hidden from the sunlight, trapped under many rocks and boulders etc. It was only by chance that she and her siblings were found, and they have given Dragonmaid, and all who have come in contact with them, great joy.

They have they're own lair, which they share with each other, and three other baby dragons and two adults. This is fine, because the lair is very large, and they are very small.

Sega embodies the STHC spirit, in that she shows just how abandon young can be rescued from a horrid fate, given a new life, and how much joy can come from that.

The Pledge

"I hereby pledge that I _________, will care for and look out for any young dragons that come into my care, or that I come across, know or are acquainted with. I will not endorse dragon slaying, nor culling or fighting in anyway that I am under control of.
I will not produce or keep any materials that may be harmful to young dragons - or if I do, I will keep it properly stored and contained away from vulnerable young creatures of any kind. I will never raid a clutch, or adversely effect a hatching. I will endeavour to provide a safe place for dragons to visit or shelter, and I will never harm any dragon on my own free will."

If you have any revisions, changes or additions that you deem suitable or appropriate to the pledge, then please send them to Dragonmaid.
